Joy Turner

Joy Turner

My name is Joy Turner. I live in Engawala Community. I was born in 1953 at Bushy Park which is on the Plenty Highway. I have lots of artists in my family. I have been making art since I was a young woman. I learnt how to do painting from my mother, she was my biggest influence. I have sold many of my artworks through my  Community Art Centre and at the Todd Mall market. When I started to do art , I did wood carving of animals and clapping sticks. Then I started doing acrylic on canvas, on metal and ceramic. I also do native seed jewellery making. I am studying at Batchelor to learn new things and try new art techniques. I would love to do wood carving of little birds and lizards and coolamon at the art centre in Engawala and also keep fabric painting.
