ANGELICA MCLEAN

“This photo was taken at Tjanytjarra, one of the most significant places in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. In the tjukurrpa (dreamtime), the bat people camped here.

This photo is of my niece Kiesha West-Richards, she’s 15 years old. She grew up in Warburton, but is away at boarding school now. This is a special photo to me, it shows the strong, bright Ngaanyatjarra girl that my family has proudly raised.”

“My name isAngelica Delores McLean. I am 22 and my Ngaanyatjarra name is Intjipati. I am a Purungu girl. I have lived in Warburton most of my life. I went away for boarding school for about 4 years in Perth and Esperance for high school. I returned and worked as a Youth sport and Recreation Officer for 6 years with the Shire of Ngaayatjarraku. I currently work for Ngaanyatjarra Council as a Tennant Support Officer. My favourite sport is basketball. I love hunting and being outbush with my family and friends. I love sunrises and sunsets. My favourite colours are orange and red."

I love my community and culture.

I would like to see the youth follow in my footsteps. I want to set a great example for them so they can see that they can achieve whatever they put their mind to. Palya.

I’ve developed an interest in photography and have just got my first camera to start capturing more photos around my community.
